Ajaykumar A. Bhatt completed his B.E. in Electronics & Communication Engineering from L.D. College of Engineering, Ahmedabad in 1979, securing 2nd rank in Gujarat University. Further, he completed M.Tech. in Communications Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay in 1981 and PGDOM (Post Graduate Diploma in Operations Management) from IGNOU in 1995. His professional associations include technology research projects with Physical Research Laboratory, IIM Ahmedabad, ISRO, memberships (FIETE, MCSI, MIRSTE) and an Alumni of IIT Bombay.
Prior to joining MMRC, Ajaykumar A. Bhatt, an IRSSE (Indian Railway Services of Signal Engineers) 1980 Exam Batch officer, had a distinguished career and an accident free railway service record of more than 32 years (15 years in Indian Railways and 17 years as Head of Department in Konkan Railway). In Indian Railways, he also served as Professor, Railway Staff College and in-charge of EDP Center. He has a vast experience in various railway domains which include integration and interface management of multi-disciplinary railway systems, safety enhancement in train operations through implementing innovative designs, products and engineering solutions, strategic consulting and business plan development for railways, contract management, operations and maintenance management, human resource management etc.
Some of his noteworthy achievements include paper presentations in International Railways Conferences, training in DSB (Danish State Railways, Denmark), active involvement in numbers of first ever IT initiatives taken on Indian Railways, development of Networked Anti-Collision Device (ACD) System, commissioning and taking over of maintenance of newly created assets of various Railway Electrification works, optimizing operations and maintenance (including computerization) of newly created railway, exposure to Metro & Light Rail Transit Systems, in India and abroad.
Presently, while implementing ‘Mumbai Metro Line-3’ project his efforts are aimed at providing a ‘comfortable travel at an affordable price’, by taking possible ‘make in India’ initiatives and judicious selection of Metro Rail Systems that are reliable, available, maintainable, safe, durable and workable in the local conditions of Mumbai.
